Kris Atomic Magazine Collages

I love me a bit of Pinterest as much as anyone (you can follow my boards here, yo) but I came across these old scrapbooks of mine and got a bit nostalgic for some actual cutting and pasting. Hard to date these now, but I would guess they're from at least three years ago based on the last time I can remember sticking stuff in. I'd go through all my magazines and tear out images I liked every few months, then faff about arranging them moodboard-style in these A3 sketchbooks. Nowadays I read (far, far fewer) magazines on my ipad and do most of my collecting on Pinterest or in Dropmark without even touching a piece of paper or pair of scissors in the process. Technology!

I used to do that, too!
I love Pinterest but there’s something so satisfying about scrapbooks. I think it’s the fact that you get to throw out a bunch of magazines and free up some space (I’m such a hoarder when it comes to magazines).

Although I totally understand what a pain this may be, this really did bring out the creative juice – just because of the tactile nature of the ‘inspiration’ you were handling… and the fact that you’re placing them in some sensible layout instead of just repinning into a generic grid format… There’s a whole story behind the layouts too, and man…those trips to go out to buy more glue. TRIPPIN.

Cool pages!
I still do collages. Not as often as before but I still have a journal by my desk to collect bits and pieces.

Although I’m viewing it on a screen and am unable to touch it it feel so refreshing! Love your image combos!

I have TONS of journals just like these. I would obsessively look through magazines for inspiration and cut out my favorites, past them in journals and then draw all around the inspiration. I think I need to start doing it again…

I totally recognize a bunch of these scraps from an old issue of Nylon that came out when I was in high school! The blonde girl with the drawn on black eyebrows and that shot of a Tracey Emin quilt are also living in some collage circa 2006.

Those moadboard are very nice.
These days I begin to realize how computer is time-consuming and replace some things we used to do…
They should create some rehab for computer addict!

Wow, those are awesome!!! I remember my old scrapbook, I loved your post, brought back so many memories… Kirsten Dunst in ‘Crazy Beautiful’ had a great scrapbook…

I still do this :)
But since Pinterest seduced over the past couple months I admit, I haven’t touched them.
Still love flipping through the pages every now and again!

What kind of glue works best for scrapbooks/collages like these?
I always tried using elmers-glue-all but it was very time consuming and sometimes too liquid-y for the paper.
You’ve inspired me, might try to hack away at them this weekend. :)

Those were the days… :) I also have a couple of such scrapbooks. Some photos were just photocopied and they are b&w so I drew arrows next to them, describing the colors. Oh boy!
