Valentine

14 February 12

I don't really do Valentine's Day (other than having some quite festive raspberry cheesecake today actually), but I had this little lady waiting to be scanned since last month and today seemed like the perfect day. Watercolour and gouache on A3 paper, nice and simple.

Wow, she’s SO pretty! I’ve been painting watercolor Valentine cards all day, and my friends were very pleased to receive them – but your illustration is simply perfect.

all kinds of adorableness! I, too, don’t “do” Valentines but I did buy myself cheesecake & some pretty things today!

All Valentine’s should be that nice. I “did” Valentine’s alone, since the bf lives in England. He sent me choccies, so I basically devoured all but one :) (I was eating for the two of us? Haha.)

I have an art question…how do you get your watercolors from paper to computer so bright with bright white background? Any help?

Autumn

Hi Autumn,

If you’re using a textured watercolour paper it’s pretty impossible to get the paper white without blowing out all the colours in the paint. So what I do is scan it in and adjust the brightness/colour/levels/curves or whatever in photoshop, until the painted areas look good. Then I select the background and just delete it.

Hope that helps!
