The Wallace Collection
21 May 11
I visited The Wallace Collection for the first time on thursday and boy am I sorry that I haven't been before. Boucher's Madame de Pompadour and Fragonard's The Swing are obvious highlights, but just walking around Hertford House is a joy. There's a small but perfectly formed Watteau exhibition on until the 5th of June too. If you haven't been, you must go, it's free!

Ahhh The Wallace collection! One of the MAs in art conservation that I’d been looking at does internships with them and made me salivate so much I almost drowned.

The Wallace Collection is one of my london favorites. It always feels magical somehow and kind of off the beaten path.

My trip to the Wallace Collection was embarrassing (but wonderful). I was wandering around. I was starving (as I was the bulk of the time I studied abroad because I used my food money on other things) and my stomach growled ridiculously and almost unbelievably loudly when I was alone in a room with one of the attendant/security people. He turned and looked at me. And I practically ran into the next room. Awkward times.

Everything about this collection is so decadent and vibrant. I love their choices of the pops of color, the reds, the blues, the teals. I especially love the teal brocade wall papered room. Teal is my favorite color in the entire planet.
I think, though, the picture that stands out to me so much, is probably the wide eyed dog on the golden clock. It looks pretty crazy, like it’s really, really hungry! :)

Very lovely photos. I once went on one of their guided tours and made the visit very enjoyable. Maybe something to think for your second visit? I’ve really enjoyed this virtual tour. Thanks!

I stumbled across your blog from an inspirational links list, and I definitely find it inspiring. Such gorgeous photos! And I dig the fact that we have the same name :)
I also like how all the photos take up the entire width of your posts. I’m new to Wordpress, and I would love it if you can tell me if there’s any special code or plugin you are using to automatically resize your images. Please let me know! Thanks!
