Think pink!

I drew these girls for this month's Horoscope page in Vogue Girl Korea. They're wearing SS'11 Christopher Kane of course (and I scanned in the lace before anyone asks, I like details but I'm not some kind of martyr!).

Oh man, I think I’d buy Vogue Girl Korea just because of this page.

It’s seriously such a good magazine (obviously I can’t read it, but you know, pictures!) and HUGE. It’s like an inch thick! Not gonna lie, one of the best things about doing editorial jobs is getting magazines sent to me.
& thank you! xx

Yarh, they sent two copies after the small feature and I LOVED how it was so thick – and the best thing is, it’s jam-packed with stuff you would actually read and be interested in. Wish they did worldwide subscriptions hahaa

lovely! i’m curious about your work with a korean magazine, did they find you work and contact you or did you approach them in english? is the language barrier an issue?

thank you!
They contacted me and language hasn’t been too much of an issue actually. Everyone that I’ve dealt with via email has had pretty great English! But sometimes it’s just a case of making sure that everyone is on the same page and asking a million questions before I get started. x

I just realized you like Nancy Mitford? I read The Mitfords: Letters Between Six Sisters when it came out years ago and was completely intrigued! I haven’t read any of Nancy’s books yet. Have you? Any recommendations?

Why do you draw European-American looking girls for a South Korean audience? Don’t you think it would be more culturally sensitive to draw Korean-looking girls?
Megan replied about 12 years ago.

I really don’t know how to respond to this! I drew what I was commissioned to draw (by Vogue Girl Korea) and the (Korean) commissioning editor was happy with it. I don’t think it’s really my place to dictate how Korean my drawing should look, to them!
How would I make them look more “Korean” anyway? Give them dark hair?! I think it’s a bit harsh to call me culturally insensitive though…
Also logistically speaking, I’m hired by clients on the strength of work I’ve done in the past and there is a certain expectation that what I draw for them looks how they expect it to.
I hope that answers your question.
