Style notes

Celine | Valli | Madewell

The last couple of days I've been playing around with some different colouring techniques over rough sketchbook drawings. I've been doing a lot of really "done" illustrations for clients lately, so I just wanted to draw something a bit more loose for fun.

All the reference images were from my very disorganised fashion inspiration folder, but I've tried to give credits where possible. I'd really love a Chrome plug-in which puts the original url of the page in the image's file name, when you drag it to your desktop. That would be so useful for those of us who are image hoarders.

Try tineye.com to reverse-find your images’ sources – doesn’t always work but it’s saved me a few times.

Tried tinye, nothing :(

It’s this photo, in case anyone knows!

I love all the different textures! That orange skirt in the last collage made me swoon a little.
Have you used Pinterest for saving online images you use for inspiration? I haven’t used it yet, but will be doing so soon. I didn’t realize just what a useful tool it was until I read this post over at The Dew Drop Inn:

It’s funny you should mention Pinterest, I was just discussing it on my twitter earlier today! I like the idea and got an invite, but you have to connect your account with either Facebook or Twitter which I totally don’t like/believe in. So until they allow normal account signups, it’s not for me!
I do use tumblr and delicious for my other bookmarking needs though, so I’m usually ok. x

kris atomic replied over 12 years ago.

I didn’t know they forced a connection via FB or Twitter. That is slightly… intrusive. I have linked up with Disqus via my Twitter account (begrudgingly at first) to leave comments on some of the blogs I love. It is a frustration that Pinterest figures everyone must either be a FB or Twitter user.
I never thought of using Tumblr as a method of bookmarking, btw!

So beautiful inspiration !!

Oh my gosh I want those shoes. SOMEBODY MUST KNOW WHERE THEY ARE FROM? Sigh.
I have a virtual fashion inspiration file and an actual one with all my clippings and neither are even remotely organised so are completely unhelpful at tracking down items.
As always, your drawings are beautiful!

OMG I love this post! I think these are my favourite pics you’ve ever posted, love the pencilly sketchiness. No idea on the shoes btw, saw you tweet about them and have been hunting too :(

I think that the shoes above are from Topshop, they got sold out everywhere! You can see them on a better pic here:

I honestly think these images are better than some of Fifi Lapin’s!

I love them. I want to print them and put them on my wall.

Tumblr has basically been a lifesaver for me – it’s the perfect way to bookmark images! I just worry that if/when the site closes or crashes, I will lose all of my inspiration images! But it’s much easier to catalog there rather than saving to my harddrive.

Love your illustrations as always, so cute!

I know what you mean, I wish all those services had an easy way to back up everything.
& thank you! x

kris atomic replied over 12 years ago.

great post. I found it really annoying that I had to create a twitter or facebook to join pinterest but now that I’ve joined I’m really enjoying twitter and pinterest.

Kathryn replied over 12 years ago.

I ended up making a new twitter and doing it that way too. I’m quite liking Pinterest so far! x

The font is a light version of American Typewriter (AmTypewriterITCTT) – http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/agfa/itc-american-typewriter/
& thank you! I thought the shoes looked like Topshop. damn! x

I really like your sketches. Their style is quite different than your done illustrations – but equally good! I love how you’ve drawn the Asos scarf. Did you scan the sketches and photoshop them later?

Anna replied over 12 years ago.

thanks! Yep, I scanned everything in and just added the colours in photoshop. x

kris atomic replied over 12 years ago.

I just started using ZooTool for saving online images and websites, and I would highly recommend it thus far! The thing that sold me on zootool is that you can add a link in your browser navigation so that when you are on a website and see an image you want to bookmark all you have to do is click that button in your browser and it will save it to your library for you. It also allows creating sets of images/websites. Very pleased so far! Keeps my bookmarks and inspiration all neat and tidy!

PS – your work is amazing.
