My birthday was on sunday

13 May 08

We went to Nobu for a lovely sushi lunch and some exciting fruity drinks. I got a bit merry on strawberry and peach martinis and everything was delicious. I'm a sushi fiend though, so I was dying to go there forever.

My mum's exotic fruit plate (she's a vegan, so no cake for her). Don't ask me to name all the fruit!

Raspberry chocolate birthday cake that I finished off for breakfast.

I wore my new shoes for the first time and they absolutely murdered my feet. Killed them. I have four blisters! Bloody nightmare, I expect much better from miu miu. I'm just hoping I can break them in? Please god, let me break them in. Just look at them, they're beautiful!

We saw lots of men with bowler hats on the way to the parade in Hyde Park on sunday. How great are bowler hats! I love them.

sounds like the most incredible birthday ever!
i’ve been dying to go to Nobu in New York. it hasn’t happened yet.

what’s your favourite kind of sushi?

J replied over 15 years ago.

It was a lovely birthday. I thought it was impossible to get a reservation for Nobu but my mum only booked it a week in advance and it was fine! It was definitely worth it.

I like practically everything! I usually keep it simple, a variety of sashimi, cucumber and avocado maki, and california rolls are my staples. There’s hardly anything that I wouldn’t eat though, apart from octopus because I’m allergic. x

i love your blog, always such nice pictures. happy birthday.

What beautiful photos!

I know I said on your Flickr that my miu mius were hopeless, but also to add: I think shoe repair shops can break shoes in for you (or condition the leather) to make them more comfortable? if you can’t break them in, that is.

they really are GORGEOUS GORGEOUS shoes! hope you can work it out with them.

I love sushi so much, although my favorite is yellow tail (so simple and anti-climatic, i know). There’s a sushi place in my city, though, that puts salsa on raw tuna and these flat Japanese crackers, and it’s pretty amazing (I’m from Texas, and we put salsa on everything).

Happy belated birthday~~

Those are some sexy shoes!
I spy mangosteen and dragonfruit and rambutans in the fruit platter ;)

happy belated birthday! i think it’s really cool that your mum’s a vegan – but if i were a vegan,, i think that cake would nonetheless be sorely tempting. it looks amazing!

I went to Nobu Last year for my birthday and I wore a pair of Miu Miu boots…but they did not murder me feet… I love nobu though and miu miu… I hope you had a happy birthday! xx

Happy (belated) birthday!

And my god, those shoes are beautiful— they took my breath away.
Where are the blisters? Is it a matter of too narrow (as they look v. slim!)? Regardless, I would expect better, too, but then again, my doc martens used to give me blisters the first few times. Then they were a dream.

Ashe Mischief replied over 15 years ago.

happy belated birthday :) Looks like a wonderful day, I would love to have some cake like that. Yummie! Those shoes are gorgeous, hope they are worth the pain?

Katrin replied over 15 years ago.

Happy birthday! You had some good weather for it. Oh, I love sushi. Since Yo sushi! opened in Nottingham I’ve made myself a bit sick of it though, as it’s a bit too close to work and so quick that it’s always an easy lunch option!
Those shoes are beautiful. I hate it when beautiful shoes hurt. I just ebayed some of mine that I love but I really can’t wear and it was heartbreaking! x

wow what a birthday -looks like a happy one! What a cake! it looks so amazing that i couldn’t move away from it! love the white and black fruit cus its so beautiful but mostly tastes like water or kiwi. love the shoes -just give them some time. :)

My friend is the pastry chef at Nobu, I will show him the photos, he will be pleased :)

arghh I’ve been looking at those miu mius every day. I need them!

happy birthday kris!

bloody amazing shoes. i’m hoping you can break them in!

save me a bit of cake. :)

kaz replied over 15 years ago.

Those shoes are gorgeous. I’ve wanted them for ages, but they seem a bit too tall. You should try Scholl’s blister plasters while you’re breaking them in. Not the most glamorous product to be carrying around, but they work like magic and they’re barely noticeable.

Happy belated birthday! Looks like you had a lovely day.

Emilie replied over 15 years ago.

Wow, It doesn’t matter about the blisters, those shoes are stunning.
Honestly i’d give my left leg for a pair of those shoes {even tho i would only have one foot left, I would just hold the other one and keep it under my pillow as i sleep}.
Happy Birthday!

It sounds like you had an amazing birthday Kris. I’ve never tried sushi properly but I’d really like to. Your shoes are fab! :)

Lil replied over 15 years ago.

It sounds like you had a wonderful birthday and happy belated birthday! The shoes are just wonderful! Sometimes it surprises me how much pain I am (and I think many other girls, including you) prepared to endure just to wear wonderful shoes, but I guess it has something to do with just “wonderful” shoes.^^

Desideria replied over 15 years ago.

You photos are the most beautiful photos! And those shoes sure is pretty =)

Looks like you had a fabulous birthday. That spread looks absolutely delicious!

And those shoes are gorgeous! Hopefully they’ll be broken-in in no time.

The white fruit with black seeds is dragonfruit. It’s fab. And happy birthday!

Happy Belated Birthday! Looks like fun. I love all your photos!

gorgeous pictures as usual. Hope you did enoy your birthday and had a great day.

Gorgeous shoes btw, I’m sure you will break them in. I have Miu Miu shoes as well and although I always tend to buy half a size up to prevent from getting blisters, they do give in after a while.

Eva replied over 15 years ago.

Wow that food looks amazing! And those shoes are definitely sexy .. Happy Birthday!

Kristin replied over 15 years ago.

Happy, happy birthday! :D Sigh, and about those shoes. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there one way or another. Sigh, sometimes being a girl you just have to make a few sacrifices. :P

Hope you had a good one and many more to come!

The food looks gorgeous and sooo yummy…

The exotic fruit plate has my favourite fruit: mangosteen! That’s the one with the white meat but maroon outer shell. Mmmm. Happy belated birthday! :)

Jane replied over 15 years ago.

those shoes are incredible. the gold inside the heel, amazing. if its the inside that’s bothering a little trick i do i take those sticker-like hose savers and line them along the inside of the shoe.

happy birthday darling! :) and the shoes are gorgeous! being from a tropical country (malaysia), i’ll help you name the fruit :D

i see kiwi, dragonfruit, mangosteen, pineapple, rambutan, mango, papaya…and peach, i think? something there looks like pumpkin, too. yummy stuff.

Michelle replied over 15 years ago.

You take the most beautiful pictures i have ever seen. But i wonder how you make them so clear/white. Do you fix them in photoshop or? If you do, could you show me/us how? :D

Helene replied over 15 years ago.

wow those pictures are breathtaking.
I’ve never tried sushi [as a vegetarian, I think that there’ll be no choice] but now I am very tempted [especially as your mum survived there as a vegan!]. That fruit plate looks amazing! I love the way they presented all the food. Those miu miu shoes look lovely but I’m surprised they’re uncomfortable for the price!
Anyway, happy belated birthday!

Elle replied over 15 years ago.

Your pictures are beautiful! Do you fix them in photoshop and what camera are you using? I LOVE THEM ALL!

Jehanna replied over 15 years ago.

Jehannahere is a post about my camera. I don’t do much to my photos apart from the usual curves/levels, resize and re-sharpen. I edit from RAW, where I fix things like white balance if necessary. Hope that helps!

AnnEl – see above! The whiteness is just corrected white balance, I do it in RAW using Digital Photo Professional. The clarity is from the lens and re-sharpening after you resize. I hope that answers your question :)

Elle – You should definitely try sushi, there’s lots of vegetarian dishes! Here’s a pretty good guide (aimed at visitors to japan, but applies to japanese restaurants anywhere) on veggie sushi and other japanese foods.
I was surprised about the miu mius being uncomfortable too :(

Helene – Happy belated birthday to you too! x

Alexandra – Thank you! Your blog is lovely. x
