A day in the life of...

21 June 08

Today is flickr's "Day in the life of..." day. The premise is basically to document your day, upload to flickr and share the five best images with the group. The (optional) theme today was "green". So here are my five and there are a few more on my flickr.
Today I went to the shops and bought suncream (spf 50), bread, tomatoes and cucumber. It was all ludicrously expensive, as everything here is. Made an excellent sandwich for lunch. In the afternoon I did some illustration business and listened to the new Girl Talk which is amazing, then went for a walk with Andrew and got chased through the woods by a squirrel. Just now we watched Fool's Gold which was so horrible that I can't even be bothered to link to its imdb. Don't watch it, it's really bad.

Ooh – where did you get that fabulous journal? I’ve been wanting one with that sort of paper for ages and eons. Are those gauche paints, and if so, they don’t bleed through at all I’m guessing? Holy dang, alright, end of lame Q&A session.

Switzerland is gorgeous, but it is so so expensive. I spent nearly $10 on a cup of instant hot chocolate!

elizabeth replied almost 15 years ago.

It’s from Muji and bonus: it was super cheap. Like 50p/1$ or something. Those are indeed gouache and, no they don’t bleed through!

I’m just shocked that it’s SO SO expensive. Like, I’m from London, everything there is expensive as hale, but this is ridiculous! x

That sammich (sorry, sandwhich) looks delicious. :)
I enjoyed this batch of photos, they have a great feel to them I just can’t put my finger on.
Plus, Fool’s Gold, haha, it was so horrendous I fell asleep in the cinema and I NEVER do that. Sheesh! x

sarah replied almost 15 years ago.

Thank you! Btw, congratulations on finishing your degree! I left for Switzerland the day of your show, wish I had seen it! x

kris atomic replied almost 15 years ago.

Aw! Thanks for posting this… What a wonderful idea for a photo project. I’m just bummed that I was at work all day and missed out on the designated DILO. Next time, I guess!

SPF 50 sunscreen?!? I live in Australia and the highest SPF our sunscreen goes up to is a measly 30! Would you mind divulging the brand of your sunscreen for all of us below the Equator?

Meaghan replied almost 15 years ago.

Really?! That’s so strange, Australian sun is so hardcore! The brand is Garnier but I saw lots of different super high factor sunscreens when I was shopping. I have a daily spf 50 from Clarins too. x

kris atomic replied almost 15 years ago.

I have heard that once the SPF is over 30 it doesn’t make much difference! This is from an article about it:

“Studies over the years have shown that sunscreen with an SPF, or sun protection factor, of 30 blocks about 97 percent of ultraviolet rays. A rating of 15 means 93 percent of UV rays are blocked, and anything higher than 30 remains in the 97 or 98 percent range.

In 1999 the Food and Drug Administration recommended that sunscreens with an SPF higher than 30 be labeled “30+,” mostly to prevent people from developing a false sense of security that might lead them to spend more time in the sun".

So we still gotta watch out in Australia!

i love it
that journal is so inspiring, i want to make one for myself. that is if i won’t not find one :-)

edrick replied almost 15 years ago.

Ever since I read a story about squirrels attacking people I’m genuinely scared that they will attack me, which is a pity as there’s tons of them on my boyfriends campus. I swear they’re watching me.
I thought I had downloaded that girl talk album a while ago, but apparently I had a fake? I didn’t know, as it was the first time I’d listened to him (or so I thought). Gr.

Tamsin replied almost 15 years ago.

I know, they are so sinister!
There were a couple of different leaks that were fake, yeah. You can get the real thing from the website above, it’s Radiohead style pay-what-you-want-for-it. It’s really good! x

kris atomic replied almost 15 years ago.

Those pictures are gorgeous! And Fools Gold is really awful!

Sheema replied almost 15 years ago.

that banner looks so cheerful!

Steph replied almost 15 years ago.

Thanks for the link to the Girl Talk download. Not sure exactly what rock I’ve been hiding under, but I had never listened to them before. They are so much fun!

That last bit with the neon green items, how neat is it that you’ve got the colors matching so well!

Kt replied almost 15 years ago.

I have been following this blog for a while, and i think you are an extremely talented young woman. you have an amazing eye for details, colors and composition. I haven’t decided if you’re a better illustrator or photographer… anyway you do both extremely well. I wish you success and luck!

pea replied almost 15 years ago.

Your journal is lovely… I love the paper… & so is the drawing in it! How adorable :)

Also, is the picture above your about me section new? I hadn’t noticed it before, but I like it. Your entire blog is very inspirational.

But now I’ve got to say that I love your blogg! Your drawings are wonderful: they have their own style, they’re colourful and full of emotions. And your photos are also really, really nice. You’re a good photographer! :) so…yeah, thanks for a nice blogg.

Lovely photos as usual. I like the little illustration you have on your sidebar. Is it all your own drawing or is it photoshop?

Lil replied almost 15 years ago.

Thanks! I drew it in Illustrator, so it’s all my own but digital :)
