Mornings

15 November 07

I had a fairly intensive photo shooting/editing moment so the blog was all quiet and sad. Sorry! The above are the final images I handed in for my photography elective (click for supersized). My crit went well and I was pleased with the outcome, though I don't know what my tutor thinks until my feedback tutorial tomorrow (and I do not hold my breath!). I'm relieved to go back to illustration next week however, I found myself a rather reluctant photography student. I think it's all far too analytical and unnecessary and I'm definitely not cut out to study it (which I was actually mighty close to doing). I love taking photos, I just don't love talking about them! Going on and on and on about symbolism and underlying meaning :(

My god, I love you my lovely-easy-going-non-judgemental illustration degree.

Fancy pants glossy 8"x 8" prints of each above photo are available for £12 (or similar foreign currency equivalent). They look nice on their own or in small groups such as this:

Square groups are good too. Do email me if you are interested. The same goes for any present commissions or any weird christmas stuff you want me to draw, now is the time to get in touch. Christmas is a busy time and I only have two little hands!
Also, any emails from the past few days should be caught up with by friday. Come to think of it, I might even do a weekly "ask kris" blog post.

These are wonderful! I’m sure your feedback will be just great. Learning to talk about art can be hard, it’s definitely one of the things I dread most about art-ing in general, too.

£12 is approximately 25 USD, yeah?

I get it about the blah blah blah part of the photography. But, truly, you are very gifted, quite naturally, I am sure. I am excited to hear about these prints going up for sale, I am definitely interested. I noticed the gal above asked about the US dollars, will it be 25.00??
Thanks a bunch.

These are wonderful. :) I always sort of wondered what learning about photography actually entailed besides technical stuff. Hope you have a good Christmas and don’t have too much work to do. :P x

kris, the photos are beautiful! i’m going to send you an email now. :)

These are gorgeous!!! :) I really need to take a photography class at some point… seeing inspiring work like this always reminds me. lol.

That’s actually the reason that’s keeping me from studying photography. I love it so much and it would be a great double-major with graphic design (what I’m studying right now), but I don’t think I can take 2 years of this intensive “symbolism” in photos. It drives me crazy, all that analytical talk about art.

I just BS it and tell them their guesses on my photos are right. I couldn’t care less. =/

lovely photographs.

i thought i’d come here and say that i enjoy reading your journal whenever i get the chance to. i find that there are very rare journals out there that are frequently updated to my liking at least, or are any worth reading.

I totally agree with you on being a photography student. I love taking photos, I hate talking about them.

Lovely pictures, I have your blog set as an RSS feed on my work email to cheer my days up :)

PS what happened to your LJ?!

Burntlego replied over 15 years ago.

Aw, Kris, these are well nice!

I bet you would have been fine on the Photography BA, but I have to agree with you – it can be such a tedious thing that people MUST be so analytical about it. Sometimes I want to throttle my tutor when she’s harping on about “What is your concept? What are you trying to say?” when sometimes I just want to take a bloody pretty photograph.

I love the idea of an “Ask Kris” type of entry. I always see so many questions about what kind of paints you use and what kind of this and the other and they often go unanswered. For you to talk about how you create your art would be really insightful for others, I think.

Kim – Thanks! Also, I love your blog and your photographs are ridiculously lovely. x
£12 is indeed $25 :)

Danette – Thank you also! Yep, $25!

Lil – Yes, I also wondered this! It’s a different world, I’ll tell you that.
Over christmas I am redecorating my room so no rest for me :P

tsilli – thank you! I emailed you back! x

Casey – Grab a camera and set yourself a project! That’s basically all that happens. Then at the end get someone to look through the photos and say mean things about them. Ta-dah!
Ok I kid, I kid :)

Melissa – Yeah, exactly. You just always end up making things up! I’M SORRY I’M NOT DEEP. x

Icee – thank you very much! I hope to be back to everyday posting now that I’ve finished all this photography nonsense :)

Helena – I’m glad it’s not just me!

Burntlego – Yay, thanks! My LJ is mostly dead. I’m here now innit! Sarah – Exactly! Also it was just sooo different to the critique we get in illustration that I was a bit taken aback! I probably would get used to it (but I’m kinda glad I don’t have to:)). I think I’m better at just taking photos… organically. For lack of a better word. x
