I’m working flat out on a picture book for uni and the Macmillan prize at the moment. These are just some sketches of the characters in their environment, today I’m working on getting the whole story board laid out. 32 pages! This is so much harder than I though it would be. I’m writing my own story, trying to make it appeal to children while still looking good/like me and attempting to avoid stereotypical representations of gender roles via the girl and boy mice. I’m a feminist, these things matter.

I’ve been doing lots of quick rough drawings, trying to work out some ideas for greeting cards I want to print. It’s weird thinking of Christmas this early in the year, though I’ve noticed some shops already have seasonal merchandise in! Ridiculous.

I got these mugs from Habitat for the Swiss flat a while ago and just yesterday looked up the illustrator. They’re by Hennie Haworth and I love her work, it’s so busy and colourful. Check out her site for much more.

There will be a few more paintings from this series coming in the next couple of days. This one is little, about postcard size. The paper planes were really satisfying to paint.
