Spring cycling

March 26th, 2010

Just finished a new spring themed drawing for the front page of my portfolio site. I’ve been battling with that bike for about 2 days, bikes are bloody hard to draw (like horses). The bike is pretty obviously inspired by my (black) Pashley Princess, which they’ve cruelly now released in red. So pretty!

Sketches ^ I did this digitally from start to finish, trying to work out a totally digital workflow which still looks as “me” as paper drawing. I really like digital drawing, because I’m always changing my mind about things half way through. It’s nice having things on different layers and all the colours easy to tweak.

This drawing is amazing. I wish it was so warm here in Estonia that I could ride my beautiful cruiser.

Hi, I would love to know more about how you draw digitally. Do you use Photoshop or Illustrator? I always wondered how to do this, but never actually tried… I only discovered your blog a few days ago and I really love it, and your drawings. :)

I love this, it’s fantastic. Bikes are really hard to draw, but it doesn’t look like you had difficulty at all!
I think your work translates brilliantly, this one in particular is lovely.
Do you think you’ll still do ‘by hand’ drawings/paintings? As much as I love these, I still love looking at your sketchbooks, as nosy as I am :)
