You Deserve the Best of Everything!

October 23rd, 2012

I haven’t done a movie screencap post for ages!  This is The Best of Everything, the 1959 Hollywood adaptation of the excellent 1958 novel of the same name by Rona Jaffe (you might remember it from Mad Men). The movie is visually wonderful, but imo dramatically soulless, so I would recommend giving it a read instead. Depressingly, it recently got itself a bit of a reputation for being “the original Sex and The City”, but don’t let that put you off…

(screencaps by me, copyright belongs to Twentieth Century Fox)

    Oh it looks beautiful!

That seems like a really good one!

  3. Frances says:

Ah, I read this book last year and really enjoyed it. And those screen caps really make me want to watch the film – is it really that soulless? Perhaps I can just watch it without the sound and some good 50s jazz on instead to make the most of those gorgeous looking costumes and interiors!

If you’ve already read the book, you might as well watch it! I think in comparison, it just lost a lot of the characterisation which is what I liked about the book, you know? Definitely worth it visually though! x

Beautiful, thanks for sharing! Question: how did you take these screencaps? I used to be able to take screencaps on my Mac, but now I can’t anymore…

It might depend on which player you’re using, VLC should work.
