Since getting my Cintiq I feel like my ~style~* is changing a ton, partially because I’m getting to grips with a different (better!) way of working, but also because I’ve been drawing kind of unstoppably in the last few months (in terms of quantity). Either way, I’m enjoying the challenge of making something different, while still making it look “me”.
Students sometimes email asking me about this and I always just tell them to chillax. It’s important to have a style, but if you’re in this for the long haul, it’s important to make things fun and interesting for yourself too. If I had to draw the same things in the same way for the next 40 years I’d die of boredom! There’s no reason that experimentation and plain old fucking about should end when you finish your university course. The stuff you draw for fun is nearly always the stuff that gets you work anyway.
*I tried to write this without tildes, but it’s impossible. They’re the perfect written embodiment of a sarcastic air quote! I sometimes catch myself making air tildes with my hands…

I love this new direction, the above is in-cred-i-ble! Can’t wait for more! Also featured your superb photography on my blog last week…. So many talents in one person. Sigh.

And about this one in particular, dude, it’s so gooood. The colours are insane in a totally good way.
It reminds me a bit of Mark Ryden/Nicoletta Ceccoli/Joe Soren, but in your own style. Props!

I have recently discovered and have been using Photoshop and Illustrator!

I am hoping to get a tablet and stylus soon!
Probably just a Bamboo one though, not a Cintiq.

Thank you very much!
A Bamboo is a great start, it takes a while to get your head/hand around working on a tablet so the best thing to do it just practice loads! x

This is so beautiful. I would say it’s still very much true to your style, but an evolved form!

Beautiful! The color palette makes me think of dusky twilight in autumn.
And thanks for using tildes; there aren’t enough of them on the web. I’m thinking I should start using air tildes too, but I have not idea how I would do them… do you just draw a pair of them with your index fingers? ;)
