Kris Atomic Illustration

Yet another project I worked on during my blog downtime seeing the light of day today!

I worked with indie dressmaking pattern company Gather to illustrate the packaging for their patterns and kits. I wanted to evoke the feel of vintage pattern illustrations while still looking totally contemporary and showing the structure of the garments accurately, which was a nice balance to work out! Sandra and Caroline of Gather were awesome to work with – there’s this tricky harmony of strong direction and creative freedom which is hard to get right, but totally the sweet spot when being commissioned. I’m especially happy with the colour palettes for these gals too, lots of pleasing complementary shades.

They patterns look super cool and are beginner friendly so check them out! I’m pretty heart-eyes-emoji about the The Buchanan dressing gown, above.

Kris Atomic x iBlues AW14

Earlier this month I was in Paris for a couple of days for the launch of my latest collaboration with iBlues. It’s the second season they’ve made my illustrations into cute clothes and this time they went for a kind of streetstyle-sporty-luxe vibe. Which most importantly meant: sweatshirts. I love a sweatshirt. The one I’m wearing above – repping all the countries where iBlues has stores – is my fave. It’s made out of this cool futuristic fabric and the print looks ace. I was so impressed with the quality of the fabrics and printing of everything, they did the most beautiful job.

So for the launch, the super fancy store (which is in the Passy area, just over the river from the Eiffel Tower) threw a special event with My Little Paris and invited lots of people to check out the collection and get their portrait drawn by me. There were custom cocktails (an iAtomic among others!), amazing little snacks, a dj and a backdrop with my print and illustrated props for people to pose with. I was totally overwhelmed by how much trouble everyone went to. I spent the whole evening drawing french babes which was really fun and WAY educational (what I’ve learned is that if you’re doing live drawing you’ve got to be FAST). Thank god for brush pens! It was really interesting to chat to the girls while I drew them, especially as illustration is normally such a solitary pursuit. The passing trays of canapés were also a big help, drawing at home without scallops wrapped in bacon just isn’t the same.

Thank you so much iBlues and My Little Paris, I had a blast!

Kris Atomic The Apartment

One of my favourite things at the end of an illustration job is seeing my drawings on stuff. When you work almost exclusively with digital files, it’s really fun and exciting to see them applied to real tangible objects, out there in the world. In my 3rd season of working with Abi of The Apartment for LFW, the stuff just keeps getting better. In one year we’ve escalated from water bottles to freaking cars (and tote bags and umbrellas!). A mini fleet of Hyundais that were used to ferry bloggers between shows during London Fashion Week and saved my butt getting home when the trains weren’t running in bad weather.

Problem is, at this rate I’m expecting blimps and double decker buses next season. Yo Abi, you’ve created a monster!Kris Atomic The Apartment
